Artist Statement

" I seek the capture of extraordinary quintessential beauty in compelling compositions of the ordinary."

Photographic abstraction is my sanctuary and source. It is where I lose myself and find myself, at once. As an artist, I am always at work, even when I seem to be at rest, my mind is still concerned with my work; searching, observing; scrutinizing facts and impressions. As a creative photographer, I work not only when taking a picture, but all waking hours. I constantly see potential for images and compositions everywhere I go. Even my dreams are filled with new ideas for visual expression. You could say I am obsessed with by the relationships of line, color and form; and the contrast between light and dark.  Art, for me, does not have to be about ‘anything’ other than the process of its own creation.

My current body of work is an impassioned investigation of abandoned spaces
and my experiences in them. The entropic abstract images I capture take on a transformational quality, not unlike alchemy, where my images of the ordinary become extraordinary.

The artistic process used to create my abstract art pieces begins with a digital image captured from entropic, scarred and weathered surfaces, usually in man-made environments. The pieces are printed with pigment inks on archival fine art paper. They may be box mounted and textured with extra heavy acrylic gel medium with a brushstroke finish, giving the impression of a painting.

The quest for abstract beauty in everyday objects fuels my passion to create my work and inspires me to continue my path as an artist, always in pursuit of the
next great find. This desire to interpret and capture what I see around me is a special gift and I trust it to lead me to my best and truest self, as I believe all art
is truly self-portraiture.
